Chemistry + Instinct.
The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." Carl Jung.
And so we talk about Chemistry in relationships most of the time. I do not disagree, in fact, I most certainly agree. It’s a feeling that cannot possibly be described by the words desire, adoration, fondness or even love. Love is too general, too big and at the same time, too small for us to carry. We can’t possibly understand it’s development, and we can possibly never trace it’s history.
I suppose, it will be some time before we actually understand the difference between animal instincts and human emotion. If humans are capable of falling in love, then so do animals. Don’t they? It is an universal emotion. An example is how elephants mourn for their dead, or a Lioness’ attraction to darker mane males. Well, Love is an instinct isn’t it?
Animal Instinct.
If time was a factor, then when 2 people have been together or known each other long enough, a relationship between them would then work out. But the thing is, the amount of time together isn’t a factor at all, Sodium Chloride is Sodium Chloride and Sugar is Sugar. These 2 chemicals can be mixed to look like they are of the same substance, but chemically, it just doesn’t blend no matter how much time u leave it together.
Recently, I had friends who have had long term relationships ended. The contracts just ran out in – 10years, 5 years, 4.5 years, 4 years. In the past, I used to feel that once you get past 3 years, it would most likely be stable enough to last a life time. How ignorant.
I believe that when they all started, they believed that there was chemistry, that ‘The One’ had arrived. But most of these relationships ended, because according to the natural laws of Society, 1 + 1 = 2, which is good. 2 + 1 = 3, which is not so good.
Having been in years of relationship (of coz my relationships so far had been periodically spread out), I have noticed the importance of chemical compositions. But, the truth of it is, there is no ion particle detection devices that can tell us how suitable 2 people are for each other. It’s really a big risk each time we step into each new relationship. Animal Instinct + Chemical Explosion = Good Stuff.
How long it lasts, well, it all is down to whether the byproduct of the reaction is more important, or the sparks that come right after it that’s more vital. Sometimes, it’s just worth the wait, and it’s very much a blessing, should the right mix find your way.
