How could this have happened!!??!
Just came back from Holland V to cool down from an audacious result. Wanted an alcoholic beverage, but they dun serve alcohol after 12. Too bad. Settled on tea and some chicken wings with Boon instead.
Today was a perfectly good day. Nice weather, cooling and not too wet. Nice food, can't complain when mum cooks. Nice comfy sofa...And then, by 1am, I am totally disgusted and the rest of the week is thrown into disarray.
A team i so dearly supported almost all my life, in a moment of lapsed concentration, allowed a simple infiltration of their defensive wall. Tapped in by the discarded talent, Darren Anderton. Not much is to be said about this player though. His contribution, other than this goal, is minimal to the Brimingham team.
Liverpool should have buried the game by half time, Luis Garcia missing a glorious chance after being let through to go one on one with the keeper, blasting the ball into the stands when a simple tap was of a more viable option.
Dietmar Hamman could have at least given my beloved reds the lead in the 2nd half. However, after a brilliant dummy by Garcia, the ball having fell to hamman and also with the keeper to beat, blasted straight at the keeper. When will this nightmare of missing one on one situations end for liverpool?
Sadly though, they had to concede a soft goal by any standards. Its an unacceptable result looking at the way play was dominated by the reds, leaving brimingham with only that one try on goal from a quickly taken corner.
Optimistically, there is one side of this liverpool team which is worth watching. They are now able to dominate play - something which would be unimaginable from the past 3 seasons under Houllier.
I am pretty sure Benitez knows where it went wrong, and considering he had fielded a large bulk of players left behind from Houllier's reign, I would say their progress so far has been pretty impressive. The results however, will have to improve. Rafalution in progress.
